BEGINNER’S PROGRESSIVE
ARGENTINE TANGO IMPROVISION COURSE
for
Beginners with no experience and/or with 2 years or less experience

OUR GUEST PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTORS/ DIRECT FROM ARGENTINA !!

We have the honour of hosting Alberto Sendra & Fernanda Japas (Argentine Tango Masters) in Calgary for the whole month of June. They are one of the longest standing Argentine couple dancing together, with their own tango academy in Buenos Aires. In Buenos Aires, they teach at such clubs as Gricel, Sunderland, El Beso, etc., as well as at Escuela Argentina de Tango. They are now in their second regional tour covering Spain, Italy and Paris. They have performed and instructed in Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Brazil, Uruguay, and just recently in Viet Nam and Thailand. They have also performed with live orchestras: Color Tango Orchestra, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Roberto Siri' sextet, Los Herederos del Compas and Erica Di Salvo Orchestra. They have taught thousands of students from beginners to professionals.

Short talk on the history of tango: its roots, evolution, different types & etiquette. Introduction toTango Embrace: open & close; distances in the embrace; points of contact. Walking the Tango: the correct way of walking; stepping in single & double time; basic steps, cross & resolution.
Demonstration of lessons for students to video.
8:30 – 9:30 pm
Supervised Practica

Tues Jun 10, 2014
Scarboro Community Hall – 1727 – 14th Ave. SW
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Review of Previous Class
Learning the forward ocho for the woman and how the man leads the forward ocho. Combining the basic step with forward ocho and circulating the dance floor.
Demonstration of lessons for students to video.

Supervised Practica

Review of Previous Class
Learning the “amague” with the “ocho cortado”. Back ocho with proper lead for the man. Combination of back ocho with basic step; back ocho with “amague” and “ocho cortado”. Implementation of all these combinations with music & circulation in the room.

Review of Previous Class
Learning different ways to combine the different figures learnt. Managing the space on the dance floor. How to modify the figures learnt depending on the space on the dance floor. Learning the basic “giro” (turn). Different places where you can start the “giro”. The codes for the “giro” for the woman and how to lead the “giro” for the man. Learning the “boleo” and how to lead it. Combining everything learnt with proper embrace and circulation on the dance floor.
At the end of this course, you should be able to dance at a milonga.

Supervised Practica & Dance Demonstration of teachers using everything learnt in the course.

Milonga & Presentations: Show and Social styles (DJ Alberto Sendra)
Note: Attire – dressy casual to semi-formal.
Snacks included in entrance fee.

Price Structure:
Tuesdays – 4 week course of 4 classes & 4 hrs of supervised practicas: $100

Private Classes: $70/hr w/ 2 instructors
(prices at Buenos Aires rates +/-)
Book before or after class

Practica only: $8

Milonga w/ free 1 hr canyenge class & Preformances: $15

Specialized group class of six, with your own choice of people and topic, is available upon request: $150.hr ($25/person) with both instructors.
