This is a great book! With a copyright date of 1953 it is now out-of-print. In this and future posts on this thread, I would like to try to summarize the contents. If anyone else has heard of this book, please let me know!

The main idea is something called "rhythmic vertical progressions". The pelvic basin acts like a springboard, rising up over the free leg and lifting the upper body.

One thing I don't like about this book is that it doesn't discuss the differences in the roles of the man and of the woman. Using the muscles that control the pelvic basin, I can walk in such a way as to keep my head perfectly level (or even a reverse effect) but that is how women walk, not men!

Re. Charlotte Hess "Joy of Dancing".

Ms. Hess makes the claim that "correct deep breathing is of primary importance in rhythmic movement and expression, as well as in the poise of the body during dancing." Can you imagine?
